Prediction market platform Kalshi is reportedly reaching a valuation of $22 billion, following a new funding round that could raise around $1 billion. The milestone would mark a doubling of the company’s valuation in just a few months and underlines the explosive growth of the prediction markets sector.

Kalshi allows users to trade on the outcome of real-world events, ranging from economic indicators to sports and political developments. What started as a niche financial product is now attracting both retail users and institutional players looking to hedge risks or speculate on future outcomes.

Strong investor confidence in prediction markets

The latest funding round is reportedly led by major investment firm Coatue Management, with continued backing from top-tier investors such as Sequoia Capital and Paradigm. Kalshi had already reached an $11 billion valuation in late 2025, meaning its value has doubled in a very short time frame.

The company’s rapid growth is supported by a strong revenue run rate, estimated at around $1.5 billion. Much of this growth is driven by increasing institutional participation and expanding use cases beyond traditional betting-style markets.

Despite its success, Kalshi faces significant regulatory headwinds across the United States. Several states have challenged the legality of its event contracts, arguing that they resemble unlicensed gambling rather than financial instruments.

Arizona has filed criminal charges against the company, while other states such as Nevada and Massachusetts have taken legal action to restrict its operations.

Kalshi, however, maintains that its products fall under federal oversight through the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), setting up an ongoing legal battle between state and federal authorities.

A fast-growing but controversial market

The broader prediction market industry is booming, with competitors like Polymarket also reaching multi-billion dollar valuations. The sector is increasingly seen as a new asset class, combining elements of finance, data forecasting and betting.

At the same time, the industry is under growing scrutiny from regulators and lawmakers, particularly over markets tied to sensitive topics such as politics or global events.

What’s next?

Kalshi’s rapid rise highlights the massive potential of prediction markets, but its future will largely depend on how regulators decide to classify and control the sector.

If the company successfully navigates ongoing legal challenges, it could become one of the dominant players in a market that is increasingly attracting both Wall Street and the broader betting industry.
