The year 2024 has come and gone, and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board released its reports. In total, the gambling market has earned a whopping $6.137 billion, the highest figure in the state’s history.
Of that, $2.181 billion belongs to iGaming, while $2.447 billion was earned from slot machines and $937 million from table games in the state’s 17 land-based casinos. The remaining $569 million came from other gambling verticals, including sports betting, fantasy sports, and VGTs, or Video Gaming Terminals.
Significant changes from previous years
The biggest year in the history of Pennsylvania gambling when it comes to revenues was a 7% increase compared to 2023, when the gambling market earned a total of $5.697 billion.
Interestingly, table game revenues decreased by 3.5%, and slot machine revenues dropped by a small 0.66%. However, iGaming revenues accounted for the majority of the increase, rising from $1.741 billion to $2.181 billion, which is an increase of 25.25%.
Furthermore, iGaming revenues have come dangerously close to those of slot machines, so if a similar trend continues, they will likely surpass them in 2025.
iGaming revenues by casino operator
Pennsylvania is currently home to 12 casino operators who host 22 online casinos.
The biggest earner in this lineup is Hollywood Casino at Penn National, which partners with BetMGM Casino, DraftKings Casino, Hollywood Casino, and Fanatics Casino. The four casinos have collectively earned $820 million, a 15.2% increase from 2023, when their revenues were $712 million.
The second biggest earner was Valley Forge Casino Resort, which partners with the popular FanDuel Casino and Stardust Casino. The operator’s revenues in 2024 were $573 million, a rise of a whopping 46% compared to 2023, when the revenues were $392 million.
Interestingly, this isn’t one of the biggest year-over-year rises. The most significant increase was recorded by Presque Isle Downs and Casino, which partners with bet365 Casino. This online casino earned only $193 thousand in 2023. However, in 2024, the revenue of this online casino operator skyrocketed to a whopping $7.1 million.
Another significant improvement came from Golden Nugget Casino, a Pennsylvania online casino that operates independently. The casino’s revenues jumped 312% from 2023 to 2024, or from $14.8 million in 2023 to $61.3 million in 2024.
It’s worth noting that two more casino operators recorded revenues higher than $100 million, putting them right after Hollywood Casino and Valley Forge.
The first is Rivers Casino Philadelphia, which includes BetRivers Casino, Borgata Casino, and BetRivers Casino. The company’s revenues were $379 million.
The second was Harrah’s Philadelphia and its Tropicana Casino. Its revenues were $110 million.
