PrizePicks, North America’s single largest Daily Fantasy Sports operator, has been granted licences to offer its peer-to-peer DFS Arena in Delaware and Missouri. The two additions will increase PrizePicks’ Arena tally to 15 states, plus Washington DC and most of Canada.
“We’d like to extend our gratitude to the Delaware Division of Gaming Enforcement, the Delaware Lottery, and the Missouri Gaming Commission for their thoughtful collaboration,” said PrizePicks CEO Mike Ybarra.
“We are proud that Arena has been approved in every state where it has been submitted. We’ve seen strong player adoption to date, and we look forward to replicating our success in these new markets with a fun gaming experience.”
What is PrizePicks Arena?
Headquartered in Atlanta, PrizePicks raised its game by providing a different take on the traditional Daily Fantasy Sports formula. PrizePicks’ Arena uses a peer-to-peer model. Players compete against each other in real-time. They do not play against the house.
It’s a skill-based competition where players can enter arenas and pit their picks against a group of other players in the same Arena. To win, you either need to have a perfect lineup or score the highest in your group assigned by PrizePicks.
The Arena model introduced new ways to play interactively and instantly became a hit when it launched in January 2024. Since its launch, members of Arena have created more than 20 million peer-to-peer lineups.
Arena’s Skill-Based Approach Made All This Possible
The advent of PrizePicks Arena was anything but a smooth sail. PrizePicks got a cease-and-desist letter from Florida Gaming Control Commission. They had to stop offering standard pick ’em games.
Six months later, they came back with a new model. This new model followed Florida’s rules.
It was a peer-to-peer skill-based contest. They named the new game format Arena.
Similar to Underdog’s Pick Em Champions, Arena’s skill-based approach made it possible to avoid the sports betting categorization and fall under the DFS umbrella. As Mike Ybarra pointed out, Arena products have been accepted in every state where they knocked on doors.
Besides the impending entries to the Delaware and Missouri markets, these states include Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
