Online casinos in the United States saw massive growth in March compared to last year. All seven US states where digital casino platforms are regulated and legal saw their revenue soar. Their combined revenue was $905.6 million, a whopping 26.2% increase compared to last year.

All states reported year-over-year growth of 20% or higher and set monthly all-time highs in gross or adjusted gross revenue. The biggest winner was Pennsylvania, which saw iGaming gross winnings of $291.6 million. It is within spitting distance of $300 million, which is especially impressive given that the state first reached the $200 million mark at the end of 2023.

Michigan and New Jersey also performed very well in March. Michigan reported an all-time monthly high of $260.5 million in online casino revenue, a 21.1% year-on-year increase. That marks the seventh consecutive month in which gross winnings surpassed $200 million. New Jersey also shattered its previous all-time high with $243.9 million in iGaming revenue.

Smaller States Pull Their Weight

While the big three obviously saw the most revenue, the rest of the states saw impressive growth. Connecticut saw a jaw-dropping 30.3% year-on-year increase, with FanDuel and DraftKings splitting a bounty of $57.7 million. FanDuel edged out its competitor, hauling $29.2 million in revenue versus DraftKings’ $28.5 million.

Operators in West Virginia saw the biggest year-on-year increase, with online casino revenue rising by 51.9% to $36.4 million.

Delaware saw a $10.3 million increase in gross revenue, nearly double the results in March 2024. This shows obvious interest in iGaming in a state that only recently opened the door to online casino games. Rhode Island also saw a strong start with $5.1 million in revenue. We can’t compare year-on-year performance since the state’s sole online casino, Bally, opened its doors on March 5, 2024.

While the growing popularity of iGaming can’t be denied, online casinos also benefited from March Madness. The NCAA Tournament draws a lot of sports fans to betting platforms, many of which promote their online casino games alongside sports betting. The broader audience undoubtedly contributed to iGaming revenue exceeding all expectations in March, though we’ll have to wait and see if the bump is permanent.
